This organization includes all leading companies engaged in ship agency and operations in Canada. The Shipping Federation, based in Montreal, has its own secretariat and handles technical matters, such as pilotage and liaison between government authorities and industry.

In 1903, the Robert Reford Company was a founding member of the Shipping Federation and has held positions on its executive board ever since.
